4X GRAMMY Nominated
Hermitage Trio
Now entering their second decade, the United States-based Hermitage Piano Trio has solidified its place as one of the world’s leading piano trios, garnering multiple GRAMMY® Award nominations and receiving both audience and press accolades for their performances that The Washington Post singled out for “such power and sweeping passion that it left you nearly out of breath.”

They have appeared on major chamber music series and festivals in Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Chicago, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Miami, Washington, D.C., Tucson, Portland (OR), Tulsa, San Diego, Anchorage, Corpus Christi, Newport (RI), Winnipeg, Montréal, San Miguel de Allende (Mexico), Seoul (Korea), St. Thomas (Virgin Islands) and many others.
“...more striking even than the individual virtuosity was the profound level of integration
among the players, who showed a rare degree of ensemble from beginning to end.”
The Washington Post

Expanding their musical horizons, the Trio has recently started performing Piano Quartet repertoire with the award-winning violist Jordan Bak. In addition to their extensive touring engagements, the Trio is involved in educational and outreach projects.

Recent and upcoming performances include Friends of Chamber Music Portland (OR), Buffalo Chamber Music Society, Newport Classical, VCU Arts, Chicago Chamber Music Society, ArtPower at UC San Diego, Concord Chamber Music Society, Friends of Chamber Music Miami, Harvard Musical Association, Ladies’ Morning Musical Club (Montréal), Corpus Christi Chamber Music Society, Music Worcester, Strathmore, and other notable series.

Hermitage Piano Trio began its multiple-album recording deal with Reference Recordings, debuting its CD titled “Rachmaninoff,” which featured Sergei Rachmaninoff’s two trios and his unforgettable Vocalise. Echoing many enthusiastic reviews of the “Rachmaninoff” recording, The Stradlauded the Trio’s “outstanding playing in intense, heartfelt performances,” and American Record Guide praised that “the Hermitage wants to burst forth with passion, to let the whole world know! I am really glad that someone can still play that way in our utterly unromantic age.” Their second album, “Spanish Impressions,” has the Trio exploring the rich and diverse musical heritage of early 20th century Spanish composers, including works by Arbós, Turina, Cassadó and Perelló. The album received broad critical acclaim, with Gramophone praising the Trio’s “impeccably dovetailed phrasing and hair-trigger rhythmic unanimity,” and Stereophile noting “the Hermitage Piano Trio sounds right at home with the color and verve of this music.” The Trio’s third album, titled “Dvorak’s Circle,” is scheduled for release in early 2026.

Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance

Best Engineered Album, Classical

Producer of the Year, Classical (nominated producers: Marina A. Ledin and Victor Ledin)
For their debut album Rachmaninoff (released in 2019 on Reference Recordings), the trio received three nominations at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards in 2020:
Press
“The Hermitage Piano Trio prove another strong contender within a catalogue of riches. The ensemble brings a darker, more brooding vantage point to the 19-year-old composer’s one-movement G minor Trio, tastefully stretching out phrases…while favouring relatively massive sonorities. … Thoroughly detailed annotations and ravishingly balanced surround-sound engineering lend further distinction to this release.”
Jed Distler, Gramophone

“It was my privilege to attend a day-long recording session for this Rachmaninoff program at Mechanics Hall in Worchester, Massachusetts. (See “Magic at Mechanics” in Issue 279.) Given the artists, repertoire, venue, and production team, I expected a good result. But I couldn’t have predicted what Reference has delivered with the final product. … The performances…are as intensely satisfying as a concert hall experience. … in multichannel especially, this album is among the most convincingly realistic recordings I’ve ever heard. Not to be missed.”
Andrew Quint, The Absolute Sound
Press and Album Honors
The trio's recordings, including the Rachmaninoff album and their second album Spanish Impressions (2023), have received critical acclaim and "Critic's Choice" honors from major music publications:
American Record Guide: Selected as an "Album of the Year" (2019) for the Rachmaninoff album

The Washington Post: Hailed for performances with "such power and sweeping passion that it left you nearly out of breath"
“the Hermitage Trio… sound Russian and romantic; they have ardor, but they are not pushy about it. This is best recording I have heard of Trio 1—and that goes for the sound as well. Trio 2 is similar. … the Hermitage wants to burst forth with passion, to let the whole world know!”
Donald Vroon, American Record Guide (2019 ARG Critic’s Choice)
